Help New Orleans find home!
Help New Orleans find home!

-New Orleans is presently at 56% of its pre-flood population.

-Currently only 20 Schools are in operation, it isn't sufficient for educating all of students who wish to return to their homes.

I've recently returned from New Orleans- the condition of which this city lies yanked a dusty doll from the shelves of my memories and reality. It is both mesmerizing and putrid to gasp the breath of such an image. The strangeness of walking down a barren neighborhood that echoes its past within white trailers and piles of possessions once possessed รข?? it is life, destruction, and dismay.

Being raised in this country we are imbedded with the concept of engaging in immediacy- in fact we've seen it with our own eyes, we are not strangers to seeing entire acres of land transformed into homes and shops in a matter of months, that's why it is a challenge to the imagination to see the devastation rampant in this country OF and FOR its people.

What has occurred in the Wake of Hurricane Katrina demonstrates to the degree this country has traveled from its heart. It is now nearly two-years since Katrina humbled us- her lesson is this-

We are all connected- New Orleans has given this country a huge part of its soul and it very well lies within each one of us.

-An event is being held in Brooklyn NY to show our support for New Orleans. All Money raised is being corporately matched and will be directly donated to Emergency Communities- we are people helping people.

See you there!

Come to the fundraiser! But if you can't
After returning from New Orleans it becomes impossible to ignore the devastation- I believe that many of us have grown up envisioning our country as one that engages and supplies an immediacy in its actions. If we want to get something done-We do it!

Its been 2 years- Why havn't our great capabilites been demonstrated in New Orleans. If you have not had a chance to see it first hand- try to imagine your neighborhood demolished and half of your neighbors non-existant- abandoned.

Yes, we are trying to raise money- more importantly we want to demonstrate our connectedness- We are a great country and great people-nothing makes me believe so more then when we show our support and compassion for one another.

Funds will be directly donated to Emergency Communities for their rebuilding projects in the soulful city of New Orleans.

Truly,

Erica
